E111 Summer Intern - Software Engineer/Software Developer

Passionate about exploring innovative IT solutions using the latest web
technologies? Want to gain hands-on experience in applying these
technologies to complex problems while addressing our nation's most
critical needs? Interested in collaborating with some of the country's
leading systems engineers and information technologists? If so, MITRE
has an opportunity for you!

MITRE's Operational Command and Control (C2) Systems department is
seeking enthusiastic candidates with a broad and deep exposure to
current web-enabling technologies and Service Oriented Architecture
(SOA) development techniques. Our department's work program includes
various Department of Defense initiatives which deliver
software-intensive systems to operating locations worldwide, in support
of missions ranging from humanitarian relief, to homeland defense, to
fighting the war on terror, to supporting combat operations in places
like Iraq and Afghanistan. These systems are constantly being assessed
for their performance and effectiveness, and our MITRE team plays a
critical role in defining critical system/software upgrades that will
benefit our Joint Service users.

You will work as a member of a team of systems and software
professionals as you consider new and innovative approaches to meeting
requirements and/or shortcomings of existing systems. You will assist
the task leader and collaborate with MITRE teammates, industry
contractors, and military customers as you research and assess specific
technologies and/or products; and you will demonstrate the utility of
these products when applied to our critical C2 and military intelligence
systems. You will leverage your strong engineering skills, while
actively monitoring and assessing trends in industry and government; and
you will conduct requirements and/or performance analyses, and
communicate your results in technical briefings and reports.

Required Skills:

* Ongoing undergraduate or graduate work in pursuit of Computer
Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent degree (3.0+ GPA)

*         Proficiency in Java and/or C++

* Familiarity with current and emerging web-enabling
technologies such as J2EE, JMS, RSS, RIA, REST, SOAP, WSDL, XML, XSLT,
and XQuery

* Strong desire to join a "Fortune 100 Best Company to Work For"
while performing work in the public interest

* Outstanding problem solving capabilities, creativity, an
innovative spirit, effective communication skills, ability to work in a
team environment, and a strong work ethic are a plus
