Systems Administration & IT Internship

We are seeking a part-time intern who has information technology skills,
likes working with people and is interested in developing more systems
experience.

 

Based in Boston, Untravel Media Inc. is developing a new online mashup
application that lets anyone create geo-coded multimedia tours that play
on mobile phones and GPS devices. The company has developed several
mobile media projects in Boston with high profile clients including the
New England Aquarium and the City of Cambridge.

 

The job entails a mix of research, equipment design and setup, and
regular maintenance tasks. Environment is primarily open-source software
with lots of PCs and some Macs. Position reports to CTO.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

o       Participate in design of servers and software. Install &
Administer same.

o       Administer Ubuntu linux servers including backup

o       Install/administer critical applications such as Joomla, Vmware,
Red5/Java Server

o       Research & test applications and gadgets.

o       Other special projects as assigned by CTO.

o       Available for 8-12 hours per week of work



Skills Desired

o       Knowledge of Linux, particularly Ubuntu

o       Some basic script writing skills such as in bash, perl or PHP.

o       Basic network configuration skills

o       Some configuration skills for Mobile devices such as Nokia,
iRiver, Apple iPod, and Chumby.

o       Windows and Mac Skills a plus

o       Familiar with using standard office applications like Word,
Excel
